Árni came west to Ontario with his parents, Friðbjörn Björnsson and Anna S. Árnadóttir, in 1873. They moved to New Iceland in 1875 and then to Mountain, N. Dakota in 1880. Árni lived there the rest of his life. Guðrún came west in 1876 to New Iceland with her mother, Sigríður Magnúsdóttir, and her stepfather, Jóhann K. Björnsson. They moved south to N. Dakota in 1881.
