Árni Jónsson was born on February 15, 1851 in S. Þingeyjarsýsla. He died in N. Dakota on July 12, 1936.

They emigrated west across the ocean to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1883 and moved south to Pembina, N. Dakota. In 1886, Árni bought land in the Sand Hills Settlement and they lived there ever after.
