Árni came to Canada in 1880 and went on to Minnesota where he lived for two years. The road took him to Winnipeg in 1882 and in 1886 he took land in the Argyle Settlement near the village of Belmont. He bought additional land southwest of Glenboro and lived there 40 years. He sold all his land and livestock in 1925, and moved first to Glenboro and later to Winnipeg.
