Árni Þorkelsson was born in 1850 in S. Múlasýsla. He died in May 1900 in N. Dakota. He took the last name Scheving in the west.

Spouse: 1882 Margrét Eyjólfsdóttir b. October 19, 1860 in N. Múlasýsla, d. in Seattle, August 26, 1943.

Árni came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 with his mother, Ólöf Einarsdóttir, stepfather and siblings. They settled in New Iceland, where Árni’s brother, Einar, had gone the year before. Árni and Einar moved south to N. Dakota in 1879 and settled east of Cavalier in the so-called Carlisle Settlement. They lived there together with their families until 1895, when Einar sold his share. Two years later, Árni sold his land and settled in the Park Settlement.
