They settled in the Fljóts Settlement in New Iceland, stayed there for a short time, then went to Selkirk and lived there for a few years. In 1892, they settled in Duluth, Minnesota, where they lived until 1902. Then they moved to the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota. Ása was adopted by Björn Stefán Jósefsson and Margrét Stefánsdóttir, who took the name Skaptason in the west. Ása and Friðrik always lived in the Garðar Settlement.
