Ásgeir moved west in 1883 with his parents, Jónas Sturlaugsson and Halldóra Halldórsdóttir. They settled in the Akra Settlement in N. Dakota. Ásgeir grew up there and lived the rest of his life there. Elísabet came west in 1891 with her parents, Jóhannes Halldórsson and Guðrún Jónsdóttir.
