Ásgrímur was the son of Jóhannes Guðmundsson and Ólafar Ásgrímsdóttur who came west in 1888. Guðrún’s parents were Jóhannes Magnússon and his second wife, Kristín Sigurbjörnsdóttir in the Árnes Settlement in New Iceland.
