Baldvin Jónsson was born on May 13, 1851 at Svartárkot in Bárðardal in S. Þingeyjarsýsla. He died on May 28, 1938.

They came west to New Iceland in 1878 and settled at Kirkjubæ in the Hnausa settlement. Laufey, the couple’s first child, died in Iceland, while three sons died of diphtheria at the beginning of 1883.
