Baldvin came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1885. He quickly moved to the Argyle Settlement and lived there a number of years before moving to Glenboro. He mostly worked in construction. In the first decade of the 20th century, he moved to the Pacific coast and settled at the little Icelandic settlement on Hunter Island in British Columbia and this is where he died. Nanna came west with her parents, Halldór Árnason and Jóhanna Jónsdóttir, in 1885.
