Benedikt Vídalín Halldórsson was born in 1835 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla. He took the last name Witalien or Vidalin in the west.

They emigrated west to Wisconsin in 1873 and later moved to the Icelandic settlement in Lyon County,  Minnesota. The 1880 census indicates the family lived Marshall. Benedikt was listed as a worker with the last name ”Witalien”. Sigríður later moved west with Björg and Halldór and settled in Clatsop County in Oregon.

*Twins, Júlíus and Benedikt Benediktsson went west around 1873 with Dýrleif Björnsdóttir (1873). Vesturfaraskrá p. 291 states that these boys are the surviving sons of the daughter. No sources have been found here about this Dyrleif’s daughter, but in the western sources the question is raised whether they are the sons of Benedict and Sigríður.
