Benedikt Valdimar Sigvaldason was born in the Geysir settlement in New Iceland on August 30, 1889. He died on December 11, 1955.

Benedikt was the son of Sigvaldur Símonarson and Margrét Benediktsdóttir of Húnavantssýsla. They came west in 1887 and settled in Framnes in the Geysir settlement in Manitoba. María was the daughter of Ólafur Árnason and Sólrún Árnadóttir who came west in 1903, living first in Gimli, then Mikley and lastly at Gilsá in the Geysir settlement. Benedikt was a farmer in Framnes and was very involved in community affairs. He was a justice of the peace, on the board of a cooperative store in Árborg, on the board of the Cooperative Creamery in Árborg.
