Bergþóra Sigfúsdóttir was born on May 20, 1877 in S. Þingeyjarsýsla. She died in Washington on August 30, 1957.

Bergþóra came west to Nebraska in the United States in 1886 with her parents, Sigfús Magnússon and Guðrún Benediktsdóttir. They moved from there to Duluth, Minnesota. Baldur was the son of Björn Benediktsson and Sigríður Jónsdóttir who left Iceland in 1883 and settled in the Aegyle settlement in Manitoba. They moved to Big Point on the west side of Lake Manitoba just before 1900.
