Bjarni Guðmundsson was born on July 1, 1870 in Árnessýsla. He died in Tujunga, California on September 24, 1954. He took the name Barney Gudmundsson in the west.

Bjarni came west to Winnipeg in 1901 while Ingibjörg arrived there a year later. They took land in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) near Foam Lake in Saskatchewan in 1905 where they lived for some time. They then moved west to Bellingham, Washington and later to Seattle. They moved to California in 1930 and lived in Tujunga.
