Bjarni emigrated west to Ontario along with his children Samson, Friðrik and Sigurbjörg. Sigurbjörg had a son, Friðrik Jósefsson b. 1873. Travelling with them were Bjarni’s housekeeper, Krístín Jóhannesdóttir, and her children. They were in Kinmount the first year, but moved to New Iceland in 1875, where Bjarni spent the rest of his days.
