Bjarni Stefánsson was born in Húnavatnssýsla on October 1, 1854. He died in Saskatchewan on January 7, 1913. In some sources, he is listed as Stephanson.

They came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1883 and lived there until 1886. They took land in the Þingvalla Settlement in Saskatchewan and lived there 12 years. They next moved east to Manitoba and took land in Strathclair along with a few other Icelanders. They lived there fourteen years before moving to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan and took land near Elfros.
