Bjarnþór came west to Manitoba with his parents, Jón Þorsteinsson and Solveig Bjarnadóttir, and went with them to New Iceland. After some time there, the family decided to move to Winnipeg. Bjarnþór was then adopted by Kristján Sigurðsson Lifman and his wife, Guðlaugur Sigfúsdóttir, in Gimli. Later Bjarnþór took the name of the family. He was hired as a salesman at International Harvester Co. where he worked for 35 years. The couple lived the longest in Arborg.
