Björn came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba with his father and elder brother in 1889. They were first in Pembina, N. Dakota. Björn followed his father and brothers from there to the Bluff peninsula on the west side of Lake Manitoba and then out to Red Deer Lake. From there, Björn moved to Big Point in 1902 and started farming on land owned by Ólafur Hannesson but moved to Langruth and worked in carpentry and fishing. Jónína came west in 1888 with her mother, Sigríður Friðriksdóttir.
