Björn Pétursson was born in S. Múlasýsla on August 2, 1826. He died in Winnipeg on September 25, 1893.

Björn came west in 1876 to Winnipeg, Manitoba and then moved on to New Iceland. He bought land at Sandy Bar near the Icelandic River. He moved in 1879 to N. Dakota and lived in Fjallabyggð. He lived with his son, Páll a medical doctor in Huston, Minnesota before returning back to Iceland in the spring of 1880. In the summer of 1881 he was back in N. Dakota, married an American woman and moved to Winnipeg. There he became a missionary for the Unitarian Church.
