Carl Herbert Tobiasson was born in Selkirk, Manitoba on August 9, 1902. He died on December 14, 1958 in Vancouver. He had the last name Finnbogason in the west.

Carl’s parents were Tobias Finnbogason and Elín Stefanía Kristjánsdóttir in Manitoba. They came west across the ocean in 1900 and after a short stay in Winnipeg, settled in Selkirk. In 1909 they moved to Mervin, Saskatchewan. Carl was with them there and after his father’s death in 1917, he would have helped his mother until 1919. After a short stay in Saskatoon and Wynyard, Carl returned to Selkirk where he worked as a construction worker. It encouraged him to continue in that field and moved him to Winnipeg where he took up the house construction. He was employed as a building inspector for the National Trust Ltd. in the city from 1937-1943. That year he moved west to the Pacific and settled in Vancouver where he was a building inspector.
