Cora was the daughter of Þóroddur Sigurðsson and Anna Björnsdóttir. Árni came west to Minnesota, Minnesota in 1879 with his parents, Björn Gíslason and Aðalbjörg Jónsdóttir. They settled in Lyon County. Árni was educated and became a lawyer. He was a district county judge for twenty years.
