Eggert, his wife, and two daughters emigrated west in 1878 to Minnesota. The family settled in Westerheim Township, Lyon Co. that same year and Eggert bought land in section 14 from the Railroad, naming the farm Gafan. Most of the children had apparently died by 1895 and only Albert and Elin are listed in the census. In the 1930 census Eggert lived with his son Albert in Minneota.
