Eggert Guðmundur Ólafsson was born on November 1, 1855 in the Westmann Islands (Vestmannaeyjar). He died on December 2, 1918. He took the name Edward Olson in Utah.

January 24, 1894 after a short time together. 3) December 13, 1895 Margrét Jóna Markúsdóttir b. in the Westmann Islands (Vestmannaeyjar) on November 21, 1879.

Eggert emigrated with his son Gísli to Spanish Fork, Utah in 1887. Salgerður Jónsdóttir emigrated west in 1892 and Margrét Jóna in 1886. Eggert did not take up the Mormon faith in Utah.
