
The map shows locations on the eastern side of Lake Manitoba. Icelanders settled there in large numbers for two main reasons. The land was good for raising livestock and the lake had good fishing. Eggert was one of those who settled in Siglunes, his son Sigurbjörn lived in Vogur.
Eggert Sigurgeirsson was born on February 8, 1871 in Skagafjarðarsýsla. He died in New Iceland on February 5, 1937.

They came west across the sea in 1906 to Manitoba and took land that they named Siglunes. He was involved in aquaculture and fishing.
