Einar Bergþórsson was born in Gullbringusýsla in 1868.
He came west alone in 1900 to Winnipeg, Manitoba. He took land in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1906, moved back to Iceland in 1916, but returned west a year later and settled in the Kandahar/Dafoe area. He lived in Kandahar and worked various support jobs, e.g., he was considered an excellent cook for fishermen on Big Quill Lake on the ice during the winter.
