Einar was the son of Brynjólfur Oddsson and Valgerður Rafnsdóttir. Einar came west to Winnipeg in 1887 but a year later arrived Ingibjörg and Siggeir. Einar moved west to Alberta in 1889 and took land there in 1890. Instead of starting a farm, Einar worked for a while for sheep farmers in the southern part of the settlement. After a few years he went to his land near Tindastól and there he started farming and married his first wife. He and Ingibjörg moved together from the settlement west to Rossland, British Columbia and from there at the turn of the century to Idaho in the United States.
