Einar accepted the Mormon faith in the Westmann Islands (Vestmannaeyjar) on May 9, 1874. Shortly afterwards, on May 27, 1874, the first Mormon congregation in Iceland was formed in the Westmann Islands and Loftur Jónsson ordained Eirík to the office of high priest (elder). During Einar’s ten years, 16 adults became believers and 9 children were blessed. Guðrún emigrated from the Westmann Islands on April 23 1880 to Spanish Fork while Einar emigrated on June 7th of the same year. They moved to Cleveland, Utah in 1889.
