Eiríkur Hjálmarsson was born in S. Þingeyjarsýsla on April 15, 1852. He died in N. Dakota on December 11, 1925. He took the name Bergmann in the west.
Spouse: Ingibjörg Pétursdóttir born in 1854 in Eyjafjarðarsýsla, d. March 27, 1920.
Children: 1. Friðrik Pétur b. August 9, 1879 2. Hjálmar Ágúst b. August 22, 1881 3. Kristín b. March 29, 1883, d. 1951.
Eiríkur emigrated west in 1874 to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was in a railroad accident and was under medical care while there. He was one of the first settlers in Shawano County in 1875 and lived there until 1876 when he took land in the Lyon County Settlement in Minnesota. In 1878 he moved north west to the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota and was one of the first settlers there. Ingibjörg emigrated with her parents on the same year and on the same ship as Eiríkur. Her parents, Pétur Hallgrímsson Thorlacius and Kristín Ólafsdóttir, lived in Milwaukee.
