Eiríkur Magnússon was born in N. Múlasýsla on March 14, 1870. He died in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 19, 1968. He took the name Eric M. Thorsteinson in the west.

Eiríkur came west to Minnesota in 1878 with his father, Magnús Þorsteinsson, and his wife, Vilhelmína Guðmundsdóttir. With them was his grandfather, Þorsteinn Erlendsson. They settled in Lincoln County. Eiríkur grew up there and bought land in the settlement in 1892. In 1905 he rented his land and house and moved to the town of Marshall. He later moved with his family to St. Paul, Minnesota, but in 1913, he sold his land and house and settled in Minneapolis. He did business there until he moved to California in 1923.
