Eiríkur emigrated west with his parents and younger brother in 1887 and lived for the first years with Þorgrímur Jónsson who lived at Icelandic River (Íslendingafljót) in New Iceland. Ólafur’s wife, Engilráð, was Þorgrímur’s sister. After three years, they moved to Selkirk. Helga Margrét came there in 1893. Eiríkur and Helga moved to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1907 and took land in the Kandahar/Dafoe Settlement.
