Elín Ragnheiður Jósefsdóttir was born on October 8, 1886 in N. Múlasýsla. She died in Abbotsford, British Columbia in 1969.
Spouse: 1904 Gunnar Jakobsson b. in N. Múlasýsla in 1882, d. in 1944 in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan. He took the name Gunnar Thorsteinsson in the west.
Children: 1. Björg b. September 17, 1905 in Winnipeg 2. Walter b. in Gimli on November 12, 1907, d. in Bradner, BC in 1974 3. Ida b. in Foam Lake in Vatnabyggð on September 2, 1910.
Elín came west to Manitoba with her mother, Björg Kristjánsdóttir, and her husband, Sigvaldi Jónsson. She lived with them on their land near Churchbridge in Saskatchewan, from there to Winnipeg, and finally to the Fljóts Settlement at the turn of the century. There Sigvaldi took land and named the farm Burstafell. Elín stayed with them in 1902, but moved to Winnipeg where she met Gunnar. He was the son of Jakob Þorsteinsson and Þóra Gunnarsdóttir who had settled in Winnipeg in 1888. Elín and Gunnar first moved to Gimli in 1906, but from there life’s road led them to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in 1908 where they settled land southwest of Foam Lake. They lived there the rest of Gunnar’s life, but after his death, Elín moved west to the Pacific Ocean.
