Elísabet was the daughter of Geirmundur Bjarnason and Guðrún Ásmundsdóttir, and Geirmundur’s parents, Bjarni Olgeirsson and Guðrún Ásmundsdóttir, settled in Eyford, N. Dakota in 1879. Guðni was the son of Jóhannes Gíslason and Valgerður Stefánsdóttir who came west to Winnipeg in 1887. They moved to Duluth in 1892 and then to Garðar, N. Dakota in 1902. Guðni and Elísabet moved to the Lakes Settlement in 1925.
