Elísa was the daughter of Kristján Gíslason and Ingibjörg Guðmundsdóttir in Pembina, N. Dakota. She moved to the Vallar Settlement in 1905. Oddur was the son of Einar Bjarnason and Ingibjörg Teitsdóttir in Pembina County in N. Dakota. Oddur moved north with them to Gerald in the Vallar Settlement in Saskatchewan in 1905. He started working for neighbors in the settlement early on.
