Erlendur emigrated west to Kinmount, Ontario in 1874 and stayed there until the middle of the next year. He moved to New Iceland with Ingibjörg and her son Andrés. In 1879 they moved to Winnipeg and lived there for one year before moving on to the Pembina Settlement in N. Dakota.
