Eyjólfur came west in 1876 with his daughter Anna Sigríður. His other children and his wife Þóra also moved west during the Emigration Period, with the exception of his daughter Þóra. Eyjólfur took land in Breiðuvík in the Hnausa Settlement and named it Eyjólfsstaðir. From there, Eyjólfur moved south to the Thingvalla Settlement in N. Dakota in 1881 and settled near Mountain.
