They emigrated west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1883, then moved south to Pembina, N. Dakota, west to Helena, Montana, and finally to Spanish Fork, Utah. Eyjólfur got on well with a large family and was popular with Icelanders in Utah. He was knowledgeable, wrote a lot and sang, and gave many good medical advice. He worked in carpentry. Although they were baptized in the Mormon Church in the West, the day came when the couple no longer felt at home, resigned from the Mormon Church, and joined the Icelandic Lutheran congregation in Spanish Fork.
