Finnbogi Þorgilsson was born in Hnappadalssýsla in 1866. He died on November 9, 1831 in the Lundar Settlement. He took the last name Thorgilson in the west.

Finnbogi came west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1883 with his parents, Þorgils Árnason and Jóhanna Narfadóttir, and siblings. They settled in Winnipeg for a number of years, but then moved to the Lundar Settlement and took land in the area called Síbería. They left the settlement due to floods and moved closer to Lake Manitoba. They were there for a few years but moved from there to Winnipeg where Finnbogi worked on construction with his brothers. At the turn of the century, they returned to the Lundar Settlement and settled near Vestfold.
