Friðjón came west to Winnipeg in 1893, Together with his brother Guðmundur and sister Ingveldur. He settled in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in the first decade of the 20th century and took land near Mozart. He died there after a long life, leaving six children and a wife.
