Friðrika moved north to New Iceland with her parents, Sigurður Sigurbjörnsson and Snjólaug Jóhannesdóttir, who had settled in Árnes. Antóníus was the son of Guðmundur Marteinsson in the Fljóts Settlement. Antóníus took land in the Arnes Settlement and named the farm Steinaborg, but later bought Baldurshagi, the nearest farm, and the couple moved there.
