They first lived in the Argyle Settlement and shortly after moved north to the Siglunes Settlement on the north side of Lake Manitoba. Jóhanna came west to Manitoba in 1903 with her parents, Guðmundur Jónsson and Jónína Björnsdóttir, who had settled in Siglunes in 1908. Geirfinnur studied animal husbandry.
