Geirlaug Gunnarsdóttir was born in N. Þingeyjarsýsla in 1829.
She was a widow when she emigrated west to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1890 with her son, Jón Jónsson and his family. They settled in Manitoba but she moved south to Marshall, Minnesota where her son, Kristján, and his family lived. She died at nearly 100 years of age.
