Gísli Benediktsson was born on February 2, 1891 in S. Múlasýsla. He died in the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) in Saskatchewan in 1979.
Spouse: August 15, 1917 Guðrún Sigríður Pálsdóttir b. in Þórshöfn in Færeyjar on January 12, 1893. She took the name Runa Eyjolfson in the west.
Children: 1. Lorne Erling b. April 26, 1919 2. Benedikt Verne b. May 28, 1921.
Gísli came west to Canada in 1911 and settled in Kandahar, Saskatchewan. Guðrún came west as a newborn with her parents, Páll Eyjólfsson and Jónína Jónasdóttir, in 1893. They lived the first months in Winnipeg, then moved to the Park Settlement in N. Dakota. In 1904, Páll moved north to the Lakes Settlement (Vatnabyggð) and took land east of Kandahar and moved there a year later. Páll’s decision led to the couple’s divorce. Gísli knew Páll and it was his first job to look for him up in Vatnabyggð. Guðrún moved there in 1916. Gísli and Guðrún lived in Wynyard where Gísli was a grain merchant.
