Gísli came west in 1876 and took land in Breiðuvík in the Hnausa Settlement that he named Viðvík. He moved to another farm in the same area in 1877 and called it Gíslastaðir. He lived there five years, but the lake flooded and forced him to move to Icelandic River and later to the Víðir Settlement.
