Guðbrandur Gíslason was born in Dalasýsla on March 8, 1854. He died in N. Dakota on July 23, 1931. He took the name Brandur Johnson in the west.
Unmarried and childless.
He came west with his father to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1876 and from there to New Iceland. They moved from there a number of years later south to the Pembina Settlement in N. Dakota. Guðbrandur later moved into the village of Cavalier and lived there after that.
