Guðfinna was the daughter of Gunnlaugur Magnússon, an early Icelandic settler in Minnesota who came west to Minnesota in 1878. Sigurður came west with his father, Sigurbjörn Kristjánsson, and his wife, Vilborg Einarsdóttir, in 1882. They settled in Minneota and Sigurður lived there the rest of his life.
