Guðjón was the son of Jóhann Pétur Árnason and Dóróthea Soffía Abrahamsdóttir, pioneer settlers at Espihóli in the Víðines settlement in New Iceland. Petrína’s parents were Baldvin Árnason (Capt. Baldvin Anderson) and Guðrún Jónsdóttir. Guðjón took over farming at Espihóli after his father died and was successful. For a time, he ran a large dairy farm and fished in Lake Winnipeg.
