Guðlaugur came west to Ontario, Canada in 1874 and was in Kinmount the first year. He moved west to New Iceland and took land in the Árnes Settlement. Although he named is land Dögurðarnes, Guðlaugur opened a post office there and shortened the name to Nes. Henrietta emigrated west from Isafjordur in 1888.
