Guðmundur Bergþórsson was born in Borgarfjarðarsýsla March 5, 1844. Died May 10, 1924 in Winnipeg.
Spouse: Margrét Aradóttir b. 1847 in V. Skaftafellssýsla, d. 1921-22 in Gimli.
Children: 1. Kristján Guðmundur b. June 22, 1876 2. Halldóra Guðný b. 1878 3. Elín b. June 10, 1882 4. Ari b. December 8, 1886 in Mikley.
Guðmundur left from Sauðárkrókur west to Manitoba in 1884 settled in Icelandic River Settlement. A year later he moved to Mikley but did not stay long as he was back in Icelandic River Settlement in 1886 bu a year later the family was in Selkirk. The search for the ideal place continued in the next few years as they went to Brandon, Baldur and in all likliehood also Geysir Settlement. A move to Winnipeg followed where they lived until 1903 when they went west to Vancouver where Jón, their son, had settled down with his family. The lasted 2-3 years before a return to Winnipeg followed where they lived until 1915. A final move was to Betel in Gimli.
