Guðmundur Eyjólfsson was born in Húnavatnssýsla on August 15, 1862. He died in Lynnwood, California on March 20, 1955, buried in Spanish Fork, Utah. He took the name James E. Jameson in Utah.

They emigrated west to the United States in 1883 and were married on the way across the ocean. They first lived in Pembina, N. Dakota, then moved to Helena, Montana, and finally to Spanish Fork. Guðmundur built houses, but when he retired they moved to California, where their son Paul was a doctor.
