Guðmundur came west with his mother Sigríður Bjarnadóttir in 1888. They were in New Iceland to begin with but in 1891, they moved to N. Dakota. Guðmundur was there until the spring of 1895, but then he took land in the Hóla Settlement. He moved to Glenboro in 1909 and lived there on his land until his death.
