Guðmundur Stefánsson was born in the Garðar Settlement in N. Dakota on December 9, 1881. He died in Red Deer, Alberta on March 4, 1947. He had the name Gudmundur Stephanson in the west.
Spouse: January 4, 1905 Regína Jónsdóttir b. August 27, 1883 in the Garðar Settlement, d. May 7, 1958 in Red Deer. She had the name Regina Jónsdóttir Strong in the west.

Guðmundur grew tall in the Garðar Settlement and moved west to Alberta in 1889 with his parents, Stefán Guðmundsson (Stephan G Stephanson) and Helga Jónsóttir. They lived near Markerville and Guðmundur ran a store there with Jón Benediktsson 1909-1926. He sold his share, moved to Innisfail where he worked in transportation but at the same time ran a meat market. In 1933 they settled in Red Deer and Guðmundur worked there mainly on construction.
